The Ceridwen, The Morrigan and Bríg have escaped the nonsense of cranky, ageing, increasingly-irrelevant gods, and live in hiding as middle-aged women in suburban Perth. Everyone knows the older two aren't really sisters, but nobody mentions it and life seems pretty good.
When The Morrigan's raven messengers warn the sisters that the All-Father has found them, they struggle to keep their identities secret as they try to uncover the old god's spies. Turns out, the entire street is populated by deities in disguise. These goddesses, from cultures around the world, band together to keep the neighbourhood safe, helping the sisters realise that living your best life is about truth, community and joy in difference.
At its heart, Suburban Goddess is about the friendships women have when they're not reshaping themselves to fit a social expectation. It's about the ways women move through the world with suspicion of women who are different in some way. It's about the arbitrary nature of the idea of femininity and femaleness.
Informed by history but rooted in the present, Suburban Goddess is a multi-platform comedy series that feels like visiting your favourite maiden aunt. She's a bit odd, but the kettle's always on and my word she makes you feel loved.
