Synopsis

As the final hours count down to District VII Amateur Mycelia Cultivation Championship, we follow some of the region's most colourful characters as they chase fungal fame.

The Club President clings desperately to the status quo as the campaign for lichen inclusiveness builds momentum and a new competitor enjoys instant approval. Nobody thinks to watch out for the sweet little girl with ribbons in her hair.

With personal drama, politics and activism, the race to the winner's podium has never been hotter.

Characters include:

• Association President Robert Call-Me-Bob Martin (male)
  Self-proclaimed myceliicon and defender of Traditional Fungal Values

• Cheryl Martin (female)
  The actual fungus enthusiast and so much more than just Bob's "Lovely Wife."

• Jax (non-binary)
  The social justice warrior, campaigning for lichen inclusiveness while avoiding the topic of their divorce so soon after the 'Yes' vote success.

• Aunty Jung (female)
  New Australian and new competitor, excited to share everything her Aunties taught her about fungus.

• Susie (female/non-binary)
  Aunty's neice? Daughter? Neighbour? Here to spill the dirt on spores.

• Millicent-Anne (female)
  A seven-and-three-quarters-years-old competition veteran, whose stare is a little too intense to be covered up by her sweet little girl appearance.

• Wayne (male/non-binary)
  Who your nanna imagines when she thinks of the scary man in the alley. Actually a human cupcake who adores tiny things.
